about nora schneider
A Chicago native, Nora Schneider's love of architecture, interior design and fashion was originally an avocation. After twenty years of management experience in a corporate environment, she furthered her education and earned a degree in Interior Design from the prestigious Harrington College of Design. She went on to head the design department of Chicago real estate development firm that specialized in high-end residential properties. In 2002 she established her own full service design firm, Nora Schneider Interior Design (NSID).
Travel is a major influence on Nora's work. Visiting places throughout the world has deepened her knowledge of history and her appreciation for different cultures. Her travels have taken her through the streets of Venice searching for the Fortuny factory, shopping for antiques on Rue Jacob in Paris and hunting for resources for furnishings and accessories in the Chicago area. Nora specializes in the juxtaposition of ancient and modern and combines them in ways that work together beautifully.
Nora's talents in helping clients transform spaces into places they love has received public recognition as well. In 2006 she won the ASID Design Excellence Award in the "over 3000 square feet residential" category. She has designed vignettes for the Merchandise Mart Antiques Show and was selected by DIFFA, the Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids, to design a dining space for their Dining By Design event. She has also been featured on the ABC Sunday Morning show discussing furniture and design.
Believing that collaborating with others, best practices, mentoring and sharing resources all lead to better design, she founded the Interior Design Peer Alliance. She is also a member of ASID.
